Strangely, in the case of article writing, the "secrets" you share are the ones that define you the most. Your secrets are the unique concepts and facts that you have about your niche. You share some of your best secrets every once in a while in articles. Of course, you save some of those secrets to be shared elsewhere, but article writing is a great avenue to share your expertise. This article template is a great way to share those secrets in a succinct, guided way. Just follow these steps: Choose a Secret - Whatever you choose needs to be something that the general population doesn't know already. It could be a startling fact or little-known process that you're ready and willing to uncover.   Write a Captivating Title – Don't give away your secret in the title. Use this part of the article to build interest in the topic, but don't over-hype the secret. If you exaggerate the secret in the title and under-deliver, readers will notice.   Share the Secret – In the introductory paragraphs, share the secret and explain it as well as you can. If you're outlining a secret recipe or step-by-step process, use an ordered list to organize the steps. If your secret is better told in paragraphs, take that route.   Explain Why It's Not Widely-Known – Up until this point, your secret has been just that - a secret. Think about why it's such a special piece of information or why it hasn't become common knowledge and share your thoughts.   Tell Why You're Sharing It – Whether you're just in the mood to help people out or you want to announce a better/faster/cheaper solution to everyday problems, explain to your readers why you've decided to share the secret.   Recap the Secret – Now that the secret is out, recap what it is, what it means and why you're sharing it in the conclusion of the article. Highlight the main points and summarize to conclude the article. This secret-sharing article template is a great way to connect with your readers on a new, more personal level. Feel free to play with less formal writing when working with this template. Some authors pretend that they're actually "whispering" the secret in their writing. That can be a different way of showing your lighter side as a writer. You've just created a great new product or service that you believe in 100%. It's fully developed and ready to be introduced to the world. However, now you face the steep up-hill climb associated with promoting an unknown brand. Oh, and don't forget that your target audiences is already receiving an overwhelming amount of messages and attention from your bigger, more established competitors. With just a small fraction of the resources of those established competitors, it can be a real struggle to make a name for yourself. Unfortunately, sometimes the end result of this scenario is that an author tries to "piggyback" on the success of other, bigger brands and capitalize on that success to bring attention to their own brand. You may have heard of this act of piggybacking referred to as a false designation of origin or a bait and switch tactic. Bait and Switch Here's how it usually happens: An author baits readers in by using a popular brand name in the title and body because the author knows people will be interested. The author then switches and leads readers to a lesser-known product in the Resource Box and links. For example, authors Ned and Tom write an article on how America loves ______________ (Fill in name brand candy bar here) and proclaims them to be the most delicious candy bar available today only to end with a Resource Box that reads as follows: "If you love ______________ (Same name brand), you'll really love Ned 'n Tom's Crispy Rice Chocolate Bars. The same great taste as candy bar you love without the hefty price tag. Visit us today." Bait and switch is not the way to earn respect from your readers. In fact, it's a form of fraud and it will always backfire. It leaves readers with the impression that your product is shady and can't be trusted. Our editors are constantly on the lookout for authors trying to use bait and switch tactics. You, too, should combat this disreputable form of article writing in your own way. Here's how you can do it, too: Don't Lean on Other Brands - Build your own brand identity with respectable, well-written content. The bigger brands don't want to be associated with you in any way if you try to bait and switch people. This can lead to legal action on their part through things like cease and desist letters, etc.   Think About Your Audience - Put yourself in Ned or Tom's shoes for a minute. Think about the value they are providing to their audience. Is an article about how America loves Nestlé Crunch bars going to provide real value to the reader? Not really. Now, it doesn't need to be a mind-blowing idea, but it does need to be original and valuable. Instead, they might consider writing on the history of milk chocolate or give a special recipe for a dish that uses chocolate. That type of content is based on real insights and gives useful information.   Deliver Value on Your Website - When a reader clicks through on the link in a Resource Box, they develop a first impression quickly based on what they see. Stand behind the content in your articles and what you provide on your website, and make sure you deliver on the promise you make regarding link content. Authors who resort to bait and switch tactics often have little to no expertise in the area they're writing about and it shows in the article and on their paper-thin website. They also promise content in the Resource Box that's never delivered on their linked website.   Focus on YOUR Niche - What's your goal with article writing? What's your target audience actually looking for? You'll have the most success finding topics valuable to your audience based on when the answers to these questions overlap. Conduct research and target people who can specifically benefit from what you have to offer and write with them in mind. The best route to take when doing anything is the honest, admirable route, not the one that involves using a veil to cover up your real intentions. Unfortunately, just because most of us know the keys to a healthy lifestyle, it isn't any easier to resist the temptation and take the easy way out by resorting to eating junk food and limited exercise. The people that are the best at maintaining a normal weight get there by genuinely changing their lifestyle. Again, this is no different in the article writing world. In today's video, I'm going to share the six parts of our own Article Body Pyramid to help you keep up a healthy article writing style. Plus, I'll go a little more in depth to help you understand what each of the six parts mean. Downloadable Versions:                 Here are the parts to our Article Body Pyramid from the video: Quality, Original Content - The average web surfer is looking for unique and informative content, so give them just that. We're talking about your "Grade A Top Choice" expertise shared through unique tips, techniques and analysis. This builds credibility. The more quality information you feed your articles, the stronger they become.   Deliver on Your Promise - Fill your article body up with content you promised in your title. For example, if the title of your article is "5 Tips to Change a Flat Tire," give five tips to change a flat tire in your article body. Not three tips, not four tips … five tips. Anything short of that expectation will confuse your audience and result in a poor reader experience. So, make sure your article body has a good helping of what is promised.   Spelling and Grammar - This also includes proper punctuation, capitalization and sentence structure. There's no faster way to lose credibility with your readers than publishing an article that's littered with grammar and spelling mistakes. Remember, you only get one first impression, so load your article body up with proper English and cut the gristle.   Benefit-Focused Words - Keep your article body in good shape by using benefit-focused words that are clear and precise. Make your articles easy to read and don't assume everyone thinks like you or knows what you know. Just because you know everything in your niche, doesn't mean your readers will understand all of the associated lingo as well. Also, try and write for a global audience. As you write, imagine someone from a different culture is reading your article. This will help you avoid verbiage that could be misleading to part of your audience.   Portion Size - Your article body needs to be the right size. Not too big and not too small. According to the EzineArticles Editorial Guidelines, the body must be between 400 and 5,000 words. We recommend 400 to 750 words as the ideal, healthy size for your article body. Feed your article too many words and it may become full of unnecessary information. Feed it too little and it'll be starved for content.   Keywords - Keywords are like vitamins, they turbo charge your body. They help with search optimization and ensure your article stays on topic, but use them sparingly. For every 100 words, your keyword may be repeated only twice. Aim for only one, but if you have valuable content, you will be allowed to use two. To avoid writing articles that sound keyword dense, read your entire article aloud before submitting it. The Perfect Article Summary Today, we turn our focus to one of the often forgotten elements of each and every article - the summary. It's one of a few things that's displayed on the EzineArticles homepage, the article's category homepage and RSS feeds along with links to the article. Apart from the title, the summary is one of the prominent things that'll spark a potential reader's interest in your article. In other words, when combined with the title, it's the article writing equivalent of a first impression. Good summaries give a short, accurate representation of the article so that readers can quickly get an idea of what can be gained from reading the article. In this video, I'll share 5 tips to help you create that perfect article summary to go along with each of your articles. Downloadable Versions:                 Writing the Perfect Article Summary Brief and Catchy - Good summaries are about 2-5 sentences in length and get right to the point. Don't waste any words that won't get you any closer to hooking in the reader. For example, you don't need to start each summary with something like "This article contains ..." Just get right to it.   Work Backwards - Write the entire article first, and then use your concluding paragraph as a guide for what to put in the summary. This is a good strategy, especially if you sometimes change the direction of an article while you're writing.   WHY, Not HOW - Sell them on WHY your presentation of material is important to them and let them know they'll get the HOW if they continue reading. Convince potential readers that your article will be the place for them to get quality, original information.   Avoid Telling All - Don't put all of the information from the article into the summary. If you do, you'll decrease the likelihood that people will actually read your full article. Keep your tips and strategies out of your summary so readers feel compelled to read your article.   No Promotion - The summary is not a place for promotional material. So, never include your name or your email address. Never use any links or blatant self-promotion. And never use your article summary for a personal sales pitch. NOTE: If you don't put anything into the Article Summary field on the submission form, we'll automatically use the first 2 or 3 sentences from your article body as the summary.
